This page will eventually need to evolve into a more focused business plan.
for now we can simply list any ideas that may have revenue potential

e3's website is an asset to business for sponsorship. IF we have a high visitor rate. If we can improve traffic to our website, we use this high traffic as an asset. We market our high website traffic to businesses as an incentive for sponsorship. The business would sponsor us for logo placement on our website. When a visitor links to the sponsors page it is tallied.
How can we improve website traffic?
Have content
wiki link
updates about the green community on campus
-Green Love, AEP, Green Campus, independant
:: each organization designates content manager to post content on website, we would have overall responsibility to add events to calendar, annoucenments etc.::
host more small events (workshops, seminars, speakers)
e3 can be SOO much more than it is right now. This semester all we are doing is hosting this career fair. A great idea, BUT we would be much more effective in achieving the clubs goal (advocating) by hosting many workshops, seminars, and keynote speakers throughout the semester. Example: Jim Bell www.jimbell.com would love to come to campus and present about how to create a sustainable economy. Say, we host one speaker a month, do on and off campus marketing to pump up thier speach. This will be much more effective in reaching sdsu's broad student body. By vacuuming them to our events we A.) start getting them interested in sustainability issues. B.) get more people aware of whats going on right now on campus and off. C.) get people interested in e3 and how they can contribute to The Green Movement. D.) improve traffic to our website and fostor conversation on our wiki.
Anyone think of doing e3 publications? We could approach the journalism dept to do stories on anything "green." If we have money, we can even pay them for thier work.
:: I would love too, that was my mission as Green Affairs. I would love to have people work on it with me and maybe we could even produce web-isodes with a variety of content. Professor opinions or discussions, local environmental impacts and events, etc - could be posted on the new wiki :: Drew
Why would a business sponsor us?
-Get high website traffic
-Have a solid website strategy

I think they did that for earth day last year... I'm thinking that the best way to get money is to get businesses to sponsor us. We need an incentive for busineses to sponsor us. Maybe high website traffic so they would want thier adds on the website. It would be cool if we addvertised earth day with the sponsor "2009 Earth Day" hosted by "company name"

There is always the google ad share program. they generate ads that seem fitting to our page content and we are paid per legitimate click on the ads.
Pros: 1.Easy to set up. 2. don't have to find companies. 3. generate money
Cons: 1. No/limited control over companies ads we display 2. little or no possibility of local companies 3. no direct merchandise sponserships
Things that need to be done regardless of which methods of ad placement we use is TRAFFIC. we need to have our site informative, up to date, visually appealing and easy to navigate for use to gain significant user traffic.
1. cleaner lay out
2. clearly state the purpose of the website

hmm. google addshare sounds quick and easy. However, if we are going to working with businesses for this Solr house we may be able to find some sponsors through the netoworking.

I like the sound of both, direct sponsors are normally listed on our website already (I think) but could be echoed to the wiki. The addshare may be a source of funding, IF we get the traffic. I think it should be used until we reach that step. Like Josh said we need to work on getting the wiki launched, ie design and placement with CLEAN and PROFESSIONAL layout, and then start recruiting traffic. Perhaps even try and find some faculty to moderate some discussion or something! I really think what we need to do is get a template and source (I think google sites will be most suitable) first, and second step make sure we get the boards endorsement cause then maybe Holly would want to help us tailor the template to match with our website.

i like the layout much better on the google site. the calender and announcements on the front page are nice, but not to say we couldn't make the wiki look legit. One negative i see to the google site is the more complicated url. they are all sites.google.com/a/YourName

we may be able to purchase a domain name, which will forward to the google url

It is true, we do currently have sponsors on our website. However, we have no contract with these sponsors and the website strategy is horrible. They are listed at the bottom of the sponsor tab.
take not of this site for website strategy: http://www.greencorecapital.com/
Ok, so i'm not a webmaster but I do know of an advisor who would be able to help us create a web 2.0 website like the one above. Yeves Peres of Eco investment. What would be worth wild for him is if we created an advisory board with his bio and website link. www.ecoinvestmentclub.com

What kind of advisory board, like inside e3 or among the clubs? Please clarify, but it sounds excellent if is willing to help us. I am sure we would not disappoint and his creditability would help us as well. Incorporating some of his content could help broaden our "topic" to include more discussions about the business now behind green. Energy and business are certainly conversation starters. Water and business comes to mind as well. The investment aspect could hold alot of content as well.
